Orbit was a return to independent building — commerce software in and around the Shopify ecosystem, where the constraints are concrete and the feedback loop with merchants is short.

Building inside someone else’s platform is a discipline of its own: you inherit a distribution surface and a set of guardrails, and the craft is in finding the durable problems that the platform itself won’t solve. It sharpened a view I keep coming back to — that the best independent products often live in the gaps that large platforms structurally can’t be bothered to close.
